Midsummer Madness

18th - 21st June 2025

Midsummer Madness is a series of 3 one-act plays written by two titans of playwriting, Alan Ayckbourn and Anton Chekhov.

The Bear by Anton Chekhov    Directed by Godfrey Room
Chekhov wrote this one-act farce in 1888; it became the most successful of his short, satirical comedies. A widow in deep mourning for her husband has an unexpected visitor. They quickly engage in fierce disagreements about values, attitudes, and actions, which lead to a shocking outcome!

Mother Figure by Alan Ayckbourn    Directed by Sally Kirkup
Lucy has the difficult job of looking after the children alone while her husband is away. The job has taken over her life so much that she never leaves the house and doesn't even have the time to change out of her pyjamas.

A Cut in the Rates by Alan Ayckbourn    Directed by Sally Kirkup
When Miss Pickhart visits the illusionist Ratchet on official Town Hall business, she discovers a sinister secret. Alone in the cellar, after Ratchet is called away, she confronts the ghost of Rosalinda, who met an untimely death.
